Girl, it’s getting raggedy out here
Ok, fine. It’s been raggedy. Between the government shutdown, ICE raids, mass layoffs, AI and Comet3I (the unknown object that NASA says is heading toward Earth) there’s quite literally enough to be worried about. The last thing any of us should be worrying about is where our next meal is coming from. ESPECIALLY a mere 3 weeks ahead of Thanksgiving. But alas, this administration from hell and its self-serving legislative undercutting has left us with grocery prices as high as giraffe cooter and an especially dire looking unemployment rate (and jobs report).
And although after some back and forth—and unhinged Truth Social rants, funding for SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as Food Stamps) has been reinstated in most states, people still need help. You might need help—and I wanna provide some resources. Now I may not be a millionaire (yet, we’re manifesting lol) but what I lack in the big bucks I make up for in research acumen. So I’ve decided to start compiling a list of people and places that are committed to helping feed folks and help with bills, clothes, school supplies…whatever you may need. This list is absolutely not exhaustive and you can consider it a working document. I’ll update it regularly and I’ll post updates to my Instagram when I do so make sure you’re following me there.
the basics (food banks & non-profits):
Feeding America Directory: list of partner food banks by state
Golden Harvest Food Bank: list of food bank locations serving GA and SC
Full Cart: Virtual food assistance/food bank. You can request help directly
LA Regional Food Bank: Specific to Southern California find food bank locations in the lookup tool
influencers & people with good hearts:
Creighton Leigh (of Voixnoire.com)
Creighton and her team work tirelessly to provide direct assistance to Black Marginalized Genders and children. You can request assistance from the website directly or follow her on her social media platforms where she regularly hosts giveaways and provides cash aid.
Keith Lee
Keith’s got a track record for giving back, so it comes as no surprise that he’s leading another campaign to help feed folks in need. I’m not sure the exact deets on his latest giveback initiative, but if you aren’t plugged in yet—check out this viral video
Randi Rossario Maples
Randi is an absolute powerhouse with a heart of gold. She founded “Detroit Darlings” a community organization that regularly hosts drives, fundraisers for the community, and provides hot meals to Detroit locals.
Stay tuned…I will continue to update this page (and post a few resources/giveaways of my own)
